'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews battle with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the thrilling dying seconds of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup. The game ended with Galbraith temporarily wearing a supporter's spectacles after the post-goal scrum.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith rattled the woodwork with a powerful shot from distance, and the defender immediately slammed home the loose ball before charging toward the East Stand to mark the goal, with supporters congregating around the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory capped an incredible recovery given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the final 45 minutes. Amid the euphoria, there was some collateral damage. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and Josh Key and I were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a bit of banter putting them on. We are on the pitch as players but we're individuals, too, so to have a laugh with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

The result booked a fourth-round fixture at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, a club Galbraith pushed hard at the same stage of the FA Cup with the London side in February. Galbraith had a prime vantage point when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with a teammate's long-range effort from about way out going in via the crossbar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was deemed an own goal.

"You would have expected they would've awarded it to him for having a go from that distance," stated Galbraith, who started in midfield before shifting to right defensive wing after they changed tactics. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he traded tops, and the winger was among the Manchester squad who paid tribute to the way Orient played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Physically they are very good but even the simple things and basic skills, they can just execute repeatedly," the midfielder notes. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they understand how to dictate and neutralize a game. You can feel you're holding your own and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even seeing. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It takes a strong mentality and concentration just to stay in the game."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a popular figure across multiple campaigns at his former club and has quickly done the same in Wales. At his previous team he linked up again with his former manager, who four years ago gave Galbraith his debut prolonged spell in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Manchester United. Then came a loan at lower division the Manchester club, before he moved on from Manchester United.

Development Path

"I was likely a bit naive going into men's football. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it appears the ball is moved without real physicality. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing men's games you have to learn quickly."

Country Call-ups

He has demonstrated that development for club and country, performing well for his national side, who could still reach the international competition next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including both legs fixtures against a football powerhouse. Ian Baraclough, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the highest praise, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he controls possession and his knack for a killer pass.

Early Days

This represents a remarkable path for the player from the local area in his hometown, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who grew up watching his parent, the elder Galbraith, also a engine room operator, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

The player's sole appearance for United came in the away trip in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they played on an artificial pitch and the stadium roof was sealed owing to conditions of -15C. "It was a lengthy journey and it was freezing," he comments, grinning. "The week before, the academy prospects worked out jointly, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and earn some playing time at the end was amazing."

Moving On

How hard was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged his mid-teens? "The decision proved relatively straightforward, because I got to the stage where I understood I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm hugely grateful for the experience gained but it got to the point where I felt I required a fresh start, move to a lower level and play men's football. Now I'm slowly progressing again."

Life in Swansea

This occurs during the middle of the day at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has somewhere to be at the early evening: a learner's exam, another step towards getting on the road. Before his recent move to Sketty, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's dubbed fun bus, a minibus driven by academy staff, the transport team, which shuttles players to and from practice and games.

"It's myself a teammate, another squad member, the midfielder – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's pleasant to socialize with the lads but I'm hoping to be the subsequent individual to stop using the bus and on the road. His teammate enjoys practical jokes; he's always up to all sorts."

Supporter Connections

During his time at his former club, Galbraith would travel alongside fans on the Tube after beginning his trip at his base. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
